OFFICIAL: President Bola Tinubu scraps Nigeria Ministry of Sports

At the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, President Bola Tinubu announced the scrapping of the Ministries of Niger Delta Development and Sports.

His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, shared this move via X (formerly Twitter).

All regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the North West Development Commission, the South West Development Commission, and the North East Development Commission, will fall under a newly created Ministry of Regional Development, whose responsibility now will be to supervise the ministry.

Restructuring Sports and Cultural Ministries

The functions of the former Ministry of Sports will now be handled by the National Sports Commission for sports.

The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy in a move to streamline Nigeria’s tourism and cultural sectors. These decisions were made during the FEC meeting in Abuja.
