Super Eagles players have begun responding to the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) ruling to penalize Libya over the disrupted 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
CAF’s Disciplinary Board decided on Saturday to award Nigeria three points and three goals after the failed match, a ruling that has lifted the Super Eagles to the top of their group standings.

2 Super Eagles Players Have Reacted: Troost Ekong and Nwabali
The incident unfolded on October 15, when Nigeria’s team was supposed to face Libya in a Match Day 4 fixture at Benina.
However, the Nigerian team’s flight was unexpectedly diverted, leaving players and staff stranded at an abandoned airport for nearly 17 hours.
The chaotic experience not only prevented the match from taking place but also raised questions over Libya’s organization and treatment of visiting teams.
CAF’s decision includes a $50,000 fine imposed on the Libyan Football Federation, which is required to be paid within 60 days.
Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong reacted to the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account, calling the ruling “JUSTICE.”
He highlighted the challenges they faced, stating, “The plane was diverted 300km from the scheduled airport, even when the pilot told them he was low on fuel. One step closer to our target AFCON 2025.”
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali added a touch of humor, sharing CAF’s announcement and jokingly questioning, “$50k for eba?”
