Fenerbahce defeated Bodrum FK 2-0 on Sunday, and Jose Mourinho took a dig at Nigerian fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel.
Mourinho was unimpressed by Osayi-Samuel’s missed opportunity in the first half when he elected to try a difficult finish rather than a simple assist.
Youssef En-Nesyri and Edin Džeko struck to end Fenerbahce’s three-game winless run on Saturday, but Mourinho was not impressed with the performance.
Mourinho Frustrated by Missed Chances
The Super Eagles defender who continues to find a breakthrough in his contract negotiations with the club was a subject of criticism from his manager.
Mourinho reflected on the match with mixed feelings. “I’m happy for the 3 points, but on the other hand, it was sad that we couldn’t create and score on so many chances,” he told Kontraspor.
He added, “In the first half, Osayi-Samuel had a position, but he was selfish there.” We could have finished the match in the first half; we just couldn’t.”
Mourinho’s comments notwithstanding, the solid win does not mean he is happy with the team’s performance and is already looking for more decisive teamwork in future matches.
Fenerbahce climbs in the Super Lig Standings
Fenerbahce move into third place in the Super League on 20 points from nine games with the victory.
But they remain five points adrift of league leaders Galatasaray, who can increase their lead on Monday night when they play against Besiktas. Star striker and Africa’s Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, leads Galatasaray as they seek to maintain their lead at the top.
