Scholes on Odegaard’s Impact

Former Manchester United midfielder says Odegaard’s absence has hurt Arsenal’s fluidity and creativity.

Arsenal’s midfield has missed his playmaking since being sidelined in August with an international injury.

Scholes said speaking on The Overlap “He changes the way they play football, and that one player can change a team.” With Odegaard back on the horizon, Scholes believes Arsenal’s title hopes will be boosted.

However, Scholes also questioned Arsenal’s mentality in big games, referring to last year’s draw with Manchester City.

He told Arsenal they must develop a mentality and win these big games against Liverpool and City.

Scholes said, ‘You’ve got to have the mentality to beat these teams; it’s important for Arsenal at some point to get a win against these teams.’

Scholes believes Liverpool are a tougher proposition than Arsenal for the title, though they have made a promising start.

Looking back on Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, he said, ‘I wasn’t convinced by either, but I think Liverpool are the team better placed to challenge [City].’

Scholes’ comments put Arsenal under the spotlight to deliver in key fixtures with Newcastle next.
