Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has explained why midfielder Enzo Fernandez has not been starting in recent games.
The Italian manager admitted he is leaving Fernandez out of his starting eleven due to the strong midfield partnership between Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, which he believes provides better balance for the team.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Maresca noted that the duo offer more physicality than Fernandez, who has not started in either of the Blues’ last two Premier League matches.
Maresca explains Enzo Fernandez’s omission
According to quotes on the club official website, he said,
“First of all it’s a matter of balance. I think in this moment Romeo [Lavia] and Moi [Caicedo], they give us also physicality, strength in the middle, and this is the reason why we put the option Malo [Gusto] in the pocket, otherwise when we play with Enzo.
“I know that you are looking for some different reason for Enzo, but for Enzo it’s very simple, he’s not playing in this moment, we have so many games, he’s going to play for sure in the future, now he’s not going to, he’s not playing, that doesn’t man that he’s not going to play in two days.”
Meanwhile, Fernández has faced challenges both on and off the pitch in recent weeks. Sports Buddy recently reported that he is on the verge of a divorce from his wife and mother of his two kids.
