Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he was no where near the level of William Saliba while he was at the the current age of the Arsenal defender.
Both Van Dijk and Saliba have been two of the best defenders in the Premier League in the last two season, probably the best two.
While the Liverpool had been ruling the division since his move from Southampton in a January 2018, Saliba only started at the start of the 2022-2023 season, when he finally made his official debut for the Arsenal.
At 23, van Dijk has conceded he was no where near as good the Frenchman while he was at the same age.

In an interview with Rio Ferdinand, the Liverpool captain speaks very highly of Saliba.
“Obviously, Saliba is making very good steps at the moment. Yeah, he’s on the first one I just have in mind now. You know, he’s a solid one. You know, I think in possession he’s doing a good job. Van Dijk said.
“Yeah, maybe (when asked if Saliba reminds him of himself). You know, I think if I’m honest, when I was that age, I was nowhere near where he was today. And obviously that’s the beauty of football as well. You know, I like to watch other defenders and pick up so many stuff from them. There are so many good players,” he concluded.
Van Dijk scored in Liverpool’s last Premier League game against Arsenal while Saliba missed the game as he served his one-match ban for the red card against Bournemouth.
