Super Eagles dealt Semi Ajayi blow
The unfortunate news was announced by West Brom manager Carlos Corberan via the club’s official website ahead of their meeting with Luton on Friday night. He said;
“Semi, unfortunately, has suffered a more difficult injury. It was an action which was an accident.”
“In this action, he has broken his muscle in two parts. The best way to manage this injury is with surgery because surgery helps reduce the risk of suffering this type of injury again.
“There are injuries which affect the tendon in specific areas where you have to have surgery. The surgery delays things by around two weeks, but it also reduces the risk of the injury reoccurring,” he added.
“Returning in about 16 weeks is the approximate time when you have this type of surgery.”
Ajayi, who had featured in all three qualifying games for AFCON 2025 will now miss the final international break of the year, when Nigeria will face Benin and Rwanda, in fixtures scheduled for 14 November and 18 November respectively
The Arsenal Academy alumnus has also featured in all of West Bromwich Albion’s twelve games in the EFL Championship before this unfortunate injury, which has not come at a kind moment for the club.
A huge blow for club and country, most especially the former, who winless in their last six games. The 30-year-old will hope to be back stronger next year around April.
