Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has secured a partial victory in his legal battle against the club, winning a significant portion of his $14.2 million claim for unpaid wages.
Mendy filed the claim last year, arguing that the club unlawfully stopped his salary payments in September 2021, following his charges for sexual offenses.

Benjamin Mendy Wins Court Case Partially
His contract with City ran until June 2023, but he contended that he was promised full compensation if he was ultimately cleared of the charges.
Mendy’s case followed his acquittal in January 2023, when he was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in a Chester Crown Court trial.
A retrial later confirmed his innocence on an additional rape charge and one count of attempted rape.
In her ruling, Judge Joanne Dunlop concluded that while Benjamin Mendy is entitled to recover some of the claimed amount, it will not be the full sum he originally sought.
“Mr. Mendy is entitled to recover some, but not all, of the sums claimed,” Dunlop stated in her written decision on Wednesday, according to Sky sports.
This decision brings a partial closure to the former French international’s legal struggle, raising questions about contractual obligations and player rights during periods of legal dispute.
