Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has raised concerns about how four current players may adapt to incoming manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical approach, according to Football365.
Amorim, known for his successful 3-4-3 formation, is set to take the reins at Old Trafford following his final match with Sporting this weekend, succeeding Erik ten Hag.
His system places unique demands on wing-backs, sparking debate over which United players could thrive—or struggle—in these roles.

Paul Scholes Says 4 Players are At Risk Under Amorim
Speaking to TNT Sports, Scholes highlighted that some of United’s forward players may resist Amorim’s approach, especially given its emphasis on defensive duties.
“There are three or four players, especially the forwards, who don’t want to do the ugly side of the game,” Paul Scholes said.
“He’s going to have to make them do that.”
Scholes noted that while United have a wealth of central defenders to fit the back-three setup, the wing-back positions could present challenges.
Amorim’s style often requires wingers who can balance attacking flair with defensive discipline, which might not suit players like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.
Scholes also questioned if United’s full-backs, such as Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, could adapt to the dual responsibilities of the role, adding,
“They might be better defensively but lack the offensive edge.”
