The result was a source of contention for Vinícius and the Real Madrid contingent, who opted to boycott the ceremony in Paris on October 28 upon learning that Rodri would receive the award.
This decision underscored the lingering tension surrounding the voting process and the close competition between the two players.
The voting breakdown, released Friday, outlined that each of the 99 judges cast votes for their top 10 choices in the men’s category.
First-place votes were valued at 15 points, followed by 12 points for second, 10 for third, and so on down to one point for 10th place.
With this system, a total of 6,633 points were distributed among the nominees.
The razor-thin difference between Rodri and Vinícius adds an extra layer of drama to the 2024 Ballon d’Or results, highlighting just how competitive this year’s race truly was.
