Arsenal are looking inwards in their attempts to replace Edu Gasper as the duo of Tomas Rosicky and Per Mertersacker have emerged as potential next sporting director at the club.
Edu, who stepped down from his role at the club last week is close to completing his move to join Evangelos Marinakis group, where he will work as the sporting director of their three clubs, Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos Pireus and Rio Ave.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Mertesacker, who currently manages the club’s academy, and Tomas Rosicky, the present sporting director of Sparta Prague, are both in the running.

Tomas Rosicky, who starred for The Gooners between 2006 and 2016 following his move from Borussia Dortmund, where he played for five years.
Mertesacker played eight years as a professional in the Bundesliga for Hannover and Werder Bremen before moving to Arsenal in 2011, where he would play for seven years before his retirement in 2018.
While Mertesacker has remained with Arsenal and Rosicky had moved away, the latter remained in close relationship with the club, and even visits the Emirates stadium to see the team play at on occasions.
The club is expected to replace Edu in the coming weeks, but the position is currently being occupied by Jason Ayto on a temporary basis.
