Despite Cyriel Dessers’ consistent scoring for Rangers, some fans believe there’s room for improvement. However, his value to Rangers’ attack was clear in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Hearts.
Super Eagles striker Dessers scored the match-winning goal, bringing his tally to 10 goals this season and 20 league goals since he joined the club.
Coach Philippe Clement has shown confidence in Dessers, consistently choosing him as his first-choice striker over Danilo and Hamza Igamane.

Dessers on Missed Chances and European Challenges
The Super Eagles striker has previously addressed his approach to missed opportunities, as quoted by Sports Buddy that he remains “unfazed” as a forward and simply aims to keep his focus.

Speaking to Premier Sports after the Hearts match, the Super Eagles star reflected on the physical toll of European games and the challenges of back-to-back matches, saying, “It’s always difficult after a European away game, on Thursday, late night game, long flight, but we got the three points and that’s the most important thing.”
He added, “Obviously, it’s always nice to score at Ibrox… to see the ball in the net, I think it was a good moment for us to score to go ahead and, 10 goals, like you say, it’s a nice number, I’m happy to get there already now, but I want more.”
National Team Exclusion Raises Questions
Dessers’ impressive form has sparked debate over his exclusion from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
Although he last represented the Super Eagles in March, he was omitted from the latest roster, with Umar Sadiq selected instead despite underwhelming displays at Real Sociedad. This decision, made by head coach Eguavoen, has faced criticism from fans who argue that Dessers’ high goal tally this season merits his inclusion.
As Dessers continues his scoring streak, he’ll look to make his mark and potentially catch the national team’s attention once again.
