Benin’s head coach, Gernot Rohr, has admitted that the Cheetahs face an uphill battle as they prepare to take on Nigeria’s Super Eagles tomorrow in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Cheetahs previously pulled off an impressive 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, which will also host tomorrow’s showdown.
Rohr on Nigeria’s Form and Benin’s Qualification Hopes
Reflecting on the June win, Rohr recognized the difficulty of replicating that result against a now full-strength Nigeria. “Repeating the feat of June is going to be complicated. Because Nigeria is now at full strength.
But we believe in it,” he told Foot Africa, underlining his team’s determination to secure an upset that would greatly enhance their qualification hopes.
Benin will need a win to keep their path to the tournament open, ahead of their final qualifying match against Libya in Tripoli next Monday.

Nigeria Eyeing Qualification with One Game to Spare
Nigeria, however, has been in top form since their 3-0 victory over Benin in the opening AFCON qualifier, remaining unbeaten through the group stage.
A draw in Abidjan would secure their spot in the tournament with one game left, likely allowing them to finish as group leaders with 11 points.
The Super Eagles are currently second in Group D, trailing slightly behind Rwanda, who will face Libya, a team with minimal chances of advancing.
Benin sits in third with six points, just ahead of Rwanda, making tomorrow’s match crucial for the Cheetahs to remain in contention.
