Napoli-owned striker Victor Osimhen has addressed his latest milestone after equaling Segun Odegbami’s long-standing 23-goal record for the Nigerian national team.
Osimhen, who netted his 23rd goal during Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Benin in an AFCON qualifier, remained modest about the achievement, emphasizing his focus on team success rather than personal accolades.

“I Just Want to Do My Job”
Speaking to Making of Champions, Osimhen downplayed the significance of his record-equalling feat. “No, I really don’t care about this.
I just want to do my job and try to win games, score goals, and provide a lot of assists for my team,” the striker explained.

He also paid tribute to Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer, Rashidi Yekini, who holds the record with 37 goals. “That doesn’t take away the fact that Rashidi Yekini is the greatest striker the Super Eagles have ever had.
This record stood for a very long time and is still standing. We should give that man his flowers and also celebrate him,” Osimhen remarked.

Focus on the Future
The 24-year-old forward, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, remains a key player for the Super Eagles as they prepare for their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda.
