Leon Balogun, who has earned 46 caps for Nigeria, has not played for the Super Eagles since 2022.
Despite his continued solid form for Rangers, the 36-year-old central defender has not been called up by interim coach Austin Eguavoen.
Balogun, however, has not officially retired from international duty, and there remains a possibility of a recall.

Eguavoen Hints at Balogun’s Return
After Nigeria’s recent 1-1 draw with Benin in AFCON qualifying, Eguavoen was asked about Balogun’s potential return to the squad.
The interim coach kept the door open for the experienced defender, telling All Nigeria Soccer, “It is possible, you can’t rule it out.”
With crucial qualifiers for both AFCON and the World Cup looming, Balogun’s experience could prove valuable to Nigeria’s defense.
Strong Club Performances Could Lead to Recall
Though Balogun did not start the season as a regular in Rangers’ lineup, he has started the last three league matches alongside John Souttar.
With 11 appearances this season, Balogun has shown that he remains fit and capable of contributing at a high level.
If he continues this strong form, it would not be surprising if Eguavoen looks to bring him back into the Super Eagles fold for upcoming fixtures.
Balogun’s leadership and experience could play a vital role in Nigeria’s bid to qualify for major tournaments.
