Lookman as CAF POTY favourite
AFCON 2023 MVP Williams Troost-Ekong, who had been included in the final ten, was omitted from the shortlist, while Lookman moved one step closer to clinching the award, with the Atalanta forward considered the clear favourite to win the CAF POTY award following his outstanding performances for both club and country.
Lookman played a huge part in Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON 23 final, scoring three goals in the tournament. He has also been impressive for his club side, netting 17 goals and providing 11 assists in the 2023-2024 season, including a historic hattrick to help Atalanta to their first European trophy.
The 27-year-old has started the new campaign in similar fashion, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 14 games, and will hope this performances prove enough to clinch the CAF POTY award.
The award ceremony takes place on December 16 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
