Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has addressed Victor Osimhen’s future at the club while also speaking of the possibilities of the club or other interested suitors landing the Nigerian striker.
The 25-year-old attacker moved to the Turkish outfit in the summer and has performed excellently well, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in nine games for the Aslans.
There have been a series of speculations linking the Napoli loanee with a January move, but he has come out to state that he wants to end the season with Galatasaray.
Also, other reports emerged that the Turkish giants are considering securing a permanent deal with the current Africa Men’s footballer of the year.
While Özbek did not give much away initially on the prospect of permanently signing the striker, his recent comments suggest he is not ruling out such posibilities.
Özbek gives update on Osimhen’s future
The 75-year-old Turkish administrator insisted that Osimhen is their player currently, while also acknowledging interests from other clubs and the financial realities behind securing the Super Eagles star’s signature.
According to quotes by Kontra Spor, he said,
”Osimhen is a Galatasaray player. He is a very successful player. We are proud to have Turkish football fans watch such a player.
“This is one of Galatasaray’s missions. Look back; Sneijder, Drogba, Hagi, Icardi, Osimhen… Galatasaray has a pioneering role in this sense, a mission to have Turkish people watch world stars. Osimhen is our player this season.
“At the end of the season, during the transfer period, of course, all clubs, everyone wants to transfer Osimhen. One of the most important factors is spending limits.
“It is too early for that. As you know, transfer capacity emerges within the limits. Therefore, let me say that this process continues, Galatasaray will be chasing the 5th star in the league until the end of the season.
“This is its most important vision and goal. Galatasaray is a club that wants to have both its fans and Turkish football fans watch world star.”
As Okan Buruk’s team looks to defend their Süper Lig title and win other trophies this season, Osimhen is expected to play a huge role, especially without star striker Mauro Icardi, who is anticipated to miss several months of action.
