Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has provided an encouraging update on Victor Boniface’s fitness, confirming the striker’s injury is minor and he could return to action before the year ends, according to The Sun.
Boniface sustained a thigh injury during Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Monday, where he played for 89 minutes.
Initial reports suggested the 23-year-old might be sidelined for the rest of 2024, raising concerns about his availability for Bayer Leverkusen’s campaign.

Xabi Alonso Gives Update on Boniface Injury
However, Xabi Alonso dismissed those fears, offering a more optimistic outlook. Speaking to Allgemeine Zeitung, he explained,
“He (Boniface) has a small injury in his thigh muscles, but it won’t be for six to eight weeks. We hope that he can play again this year. We now have to wait and see how he recovers.”
Boniface has been a key figure for Leverkusen this season, delivering eight goals and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions.
His absence would have been a significant blow to Die Werkself, who are pushing for domestic and European success.
As the recovery process begins, fans and the club will eagerly monitor Boniface’s progress, hoping for a swift return to bolster their attacking options during the crucial winter fixtures.
