Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has conceded that his team is currently struggling defensively following a humbling 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, according to Mirror.
The reigning Premier League champions have now suffered five consecutive losses, an unprecedented slump under Guardiola’s tenure, and face a daunting trip to league leaders Liverpool next week.
The match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw James Maddison score twice in the first half, with Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson adding to City’s misery after the break.
Despite starting brightly, City’s defensive vulnerabilities were exposed as Spurs capitalized on their opportunities.

Pep Guardiola admits City’s Defense is Fragile
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Guardiola acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating,
“In this moment, we are fragile defensively. We started really well as normal, but we could not score. Then, after conceding, it became more difficult for us emotionally.”
Reflecting on the rare rough patch, Pep Guardiola added,
“In eight years, we have never lived this kind of situation. Now we have to live it and break it by winning the next games, especially the next one. Now we see things in one way, but maybe in a few weeks, we see it differently.”
The City boss will now aim to rally his squad to reverse their fortunes ahead of the crucial clash with Liverpool.
