Super Eagles number one, Stanley Nwabali, has been backed to supercede Vincent Enyeama’s legacy as Nigeria’s goalkeeper.
Eyeama is regarded by many as one of the finest shotstoppers to ever don the Nigerian senior team jersey, and as a matter of fact, many believe he is the greatest goalkeeper in the country’s national team ever had.
The former Lille man earned around 100 caps for Nigeria, as per Transfer Markt, keeping cleansheets in 50 of those matches. He represented the country over three World Cup tournaments and five African Cup of Nations, including in 2013, where he captained the Super Eagles to their third ever AFCON title.

Meanwhile, Nwabali has been solid for Nigeria since making his debut in January 2024. He helped the team to the AFCON 2023 final in Ivory Coast and has remained the first-choice goalkeeper since then.
Stanley Nwabali compared to Enyeama
Former Nigerian goalkeeper Alloysius Uzoma Agu has likened Nwabali to Enyeama, stating the latter has what it takes to even surpass the legendary ex-goalkeeper.
”Nwabali has done well for himself and the Super Eagles. When you compare him to Vincent Enyeama, you see that both have represented the country with excellence. Nwabali has shown confidence and focus, but there’s still room for improvement.
”It’s just a matter of time before Nwabali gets to that level. He has what it takes to succeed if he keeps improving,” the 57-year-old said, as quoted by Sports Ration.
Stanley Nwabali has made 16 appearances for the Super Eagles, and with Nigeria having secured a ticket to the AFCON tournament in Morocco, he has an opportunity to write his names on historic stones of Nigerian football.
