Victor Boniface has been criticised for reckless driving by Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, who promises to take action following the striker’s highway indiscipline.
Some weeks ago, Boniface was involved in a ghastly motor accident but narrowly survived with minor injuries, which kept him out of Die Werkself’s Champions League clash against Brest.
The 23-year-old returned to full fitness and has continued his impressive displays for the club, tallying eight goals and one assist in 15 appearances for Leverkusen.
Boniface was recently involved in another highway incident, as the Nigerian striker was seen in a video using his phone while driving his Mercedes-AMG car. The video, which appeared on Instagram, has since been taken down.
According to the German publication BILD, Boniface was using his phone while driving at 140 km/h—exceeding the route’s speed limit of 120 km/h—and appeared to be reading Instagram comments regarding Bayer Leverkusen’s starting lineup before their Champions League match against Salzburg.

Alonso slams Boniface for reckless driving
Bayer 04 Leverkusen has issued an official statement, confirming they will take proper action regarding the situation. Manager Alonso also promised to hold talks with the attacker over his ‘unacceptable’ act.
“I don’t like it, it’s obviously not good, and of course, it’s not allowed to happen. I haven’t seen Boni, but he knows it’s not allowed. We have to tell him he’s not allowed to do something like this,” Alonso said, according to BeIN Sports Philippines.
Boniface has not featured for Leverkusen in their last two games against Heidenheim and Salzburg, having returned from international duty injured.
In his absence, fellow attacker Patrik Schick has proven to be a worthy replacement, with the 28-year-old Czech international scoring four goals during this period.
Boniface will hope to regain fitness soon as he aims to compete for a place in Alonso’s starting lineup.
