Guehi faces FA sanction for statement on armband
Guehi, a devout Christian, had a message on the armband, which could lead to a ban because the Laws of the Game do not permit religious, political, or personal slogans.
The only slogans allowed are those that advocate football, respect, and integrity. The rules clearly state that any breaches will be punished based on the player or team.
Guehi has spoken openly about his faith before. He told The Athletic,
“I’ve grown up loving God, and when I have had the chance, I still go to church with my family. My faith is definitely a big part of my life.“.
“Faith is everything that I’m involved with, really; even in football, where I’m trying to be a role model and show God’s graciousness and God’s glory through my life.”*
The Rainbow Laces campaign has been part of the Premier League for 11 seasons now.
