Chido Obi-Martin the best among his peers?
He rejected a scholarship offer from Arsenal and has since gone on to feature for Manchester United‘s U18s and development team.
“He believes he is the best player in the world in his age group. That is his mentality,” Aladejare told The Athletic, via PLBold.
Obi-Martin‘s age group features several rising stars, including Barcelona‘s Lamine Yamal, Arsenal‘s Ethan Nwaneri, and Chelsea-bound Estêvão.
Yamal was instrumental in Spain‘s victory in the 2024 European Championship and has become a regular for Barcelona, winning the Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy and coming eighth in the 2024 Ballon d‘Or rankings.
Nwaneri is an England U19 international of Nigerian origin who became the youngest-ever Premier League player when he came on as a substitute for Arsenal against Brentford, aged 15 years and 181 days.
Estêvão is considered Brazil‘s best talent since Neymar and played four matches with Brazil‘s senior selection in 2024.
By contrast, Obi-Martin stands as the all-time top scorer of the U18 Premier League, having scored 37 goals in 25 games.
