Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign 17-year-old Diego León from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
This marks another step in United’s ongoing effort to bolster their youth recruitment strategy.
Youth-Driven Approach
The Red Devils have prioritized signing emerging talents in recent years, targeting players with high potential before they become expensive stars.
Examples include recent additions like Sekou Kone and Chido Obi-Martin, as well as Alejandro Garnacho, whose value has skyrocketed since joining United from Atlético Madrid.
Manchester United have reached a broad pre-agreement for the transfer of Diego León from Cerro Porteño in June 2025 by which time the full-back will be 18 and therefore eligible to sign.

León is the latest addition to this strategy. Reports indicate there is already a verbal agreement for the youngster to join United, with a transfer fee around £3.9 million plus bonuses.
León is set to sign a long-term contract and will arrive at Old Trafford in June 2025, allowing him to continue his development in Paraguay until then.

Why Diego León?
León’s athleticism and technical abilities align with United’s ambition to build a squad featuring dynamic, versatile players. His signing represents a long-term investment, with hopes he could grow into a pivotal player in the future.
Additionally, León’s arrival may offer options for squad depth, especially as the team faces challenges like Luke Shaw’s recurring injuries.
