Fans have criticised some of Ademola Lookman’s teammates, accusing them of deliberately refusing to pass to the Nigerian attacker, denying him good goal-scoring opportunities in Atalanta’s 3-2 Champions League loss against defending champions Real Madrid.
Lookman, who recently hinted at a move to Madrid, found the net against the Spanish side, scoring La Dea’s second goal, which appeared to hand the Italian side a lifeline after going two goals down despite drawing level in the first half.
The 27-year-old also created a big chance in stoppage time, setting up Matteo Retegui, but the Italian striker failed to convert from close range. This impressive performance earned Lookman the Man of the Match award.

Fans accuse Lookman’s teammates ‘envy’

However, fans on social media argued that he could have had a better outing if his teammates had released the ball to him, claiming they were ‘envious’ of the winger, who finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or ranking.
One fan wrote, “Co-players denied him two great passes that could have been converted to goals.”
Another fumed, “Even the commentator said the same thing. If you see the way I was cursing them yesterday. They really envied Ademola for sure.”
The defeat saw Atalanta slip out of the top eight for automatic qualification, leaving them 13th in the revamped UCL table.
They will, however, look to put their midweek setback behind them as they aim to continue their impressive league run with a trip to Cagliari this weekend.
