Nigerian football icon Jay-Jay Okocha has lauded Ademola Lookman following his victory as African Player of the Year at the CAF Awards.
The Super Eagles forward claimed the prestigious accolade during a ceremony held in Marrakesh, Morocco, marking a stellar year for both club and country.

Lookman’s remarkable form for Atalanta and the Nigerian national team was key to his triumph.
The 27-year-old dazzled on the European stage, notably scoring a hat-trick in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
For Nigeria, Lookman found the back of the net six times in 2024, cementing his role as a crucial player for the Super Eagles.

Okocha Applauds Lookman’s Dedication

Speaking to Soccer TV, as quoted by The Sun, Okocha emphasized that the CAF Award recognizes more than just on-pitch talent.
“The CAF Award is not just about how well you play on the pitch,” Okocha explained. “Your attitude, your reactions to fellow players, and your responses to coaches are all tested before we even talk about tactical performances.”
Okocha described Lookman as a standout talent whose professionalism has earned him widespread admiration.
“For Ademola Lookman to be awarded African Best Player of the Year, it simply means he has been examined on all these criteria and passed,” the former Super Eagles captain stated.
Recognition for Hard Work

The former Bolton star further praised Lookman for his work ethic and commitment.
“Being dedicated to whatever you do and knowing the secret of your business is what makes you unique,” Okocha added.
“Lookman is a unique African best Player of the Year, not just [an] African best. Go and verify what I’m saying – many are still testifying about him, and more will do so.
His award is a reward for dedication and hard labour.”
Lookman now looks to carry his impressive form into Atalanta’s Serie A campaign, with an upcoming clash against Lazio on Saturday, December 28.
