Valenciennes FC legend Eric Chelle has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Algerians and MC Oran as he assumes the role of head coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The 47-year-old tactician, who recently managed Mali, accepted the Nigeria Football Federation’s offer to lead the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions.
His appointment follows a successful stint with MC Oran, capped by a hard-fought 1-0 victory over USM Sétif, which secured a quarter-final spot in the Algeria Cup.
Chelle Reflects on His Decision
After the Sétif clash, Chelle admitted his decision to leave was a personal one. However, he stressed that the chance to manage a team of Nigeria’s caliber was irresistible.
“I have the chance to join the best team in Africa and one of the best in the world,” Chelle remarked, as quoted by Mediafootdz.
“It’s true that I’m very selfish. But once again, I thank the Algerians, as well as the Oran public for the welcome.”
He also acknowledged the unwavering support he received during his time at MC Oran, praising the club’s management, staff, and players for their contributions.
