Legendary Premier League striker Alan Shearer has boldly predicted that Manchester United will defeat Arsenal in a surprising result during the FA Cup third round.

United, the defending champions, kick off their cup campaign on Sunday afternoon with a challenging trip to North London.

They lifted the trophy in May 2024 after goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo secured a victory under Erik ten Hag at Wembley.

Now led by 39-year-old Rúben Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag following his October dismissal, United have had a season of mixed results.

Despite inconsistencies, they’ve shown signs of progress under their new manager.

The last meeting between the two sides at the Emirates in December ended in Arsenal’s favor, with two goals scored from corners.

However, United’s recent performances away against top opposition, including an impressive draw with Liverpool, have been widely praised.

Alan Shearer shared his thoughts on the tie, backing United to advance to the next round.

Speaking to BetFair, the former Newcastle striker said, “If Man United turn up with the same attitude and performance, I can see them going through to the next round.

“I just think that Arsenal are struggling in front of goal and haven’t scored as many goals as they want.

They missed one or two against Newcastle, and I can see Man United going in there. If they put in another good performance, then I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they won.”
