Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a potential January move to Napoli, prompting Jamie Carragher to suggest the club should cash in on the winger if a lucrative offer arises.

Napoli reportedly view Garnacho as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is nearing a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian club is prepared to bid for the Argentine starlet, with United expected to demand a fee in the region of £70 million—the amount Napoli are set to receive for Kvaratskhelia.

Garnacho, despite his talent and potential, has found playing time limited under Ruben Amorim, starting just five games this season. Reports suggest the 19-year-old is open to exploring a move to Serie A.

Carragher’s Take

Speaking on The Overlap, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher weighed in on the situation, advocating for United to consider a sale if the bid is significant.

“If you got good money for Garnacho… I think if you got a good offer for him it wouldn’t be the end of the world,” Carragher remarked, highlighting Garnacho’s reduced impact under Amorim.

Carragher, however, strongly opposed selling fellow academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo, who is reportedly demanding a contract worth £200,000 per week amid interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

“Mainoo looks to me like he could be a really good player. You’ve got to keep him,” Carragher added.

Neville’s Response

Manchester United icon Gary Neville countered Carragher’s perspective, expressing unease about the club selling academy players, particularly talents like Garnacho and Mainoo.

“I don’t like the idea of United selling academy players,” Neville said, emphasizing the significance of homegrown talent at Old Trafford.

United face a pivotal decision with Garnacho and Mainoo. While selling Garnacho could generate substantial funds, it may risk weakening their squad depth.
