Lionel Messi kicked off his 2025 preseason with a goal as Inter Miami defeated LIGA MX champions Club América 3-2 on penalties at Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.

Messi and Suárez Combine

The former FC Barcelona trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Jordi Alba combined to level the match in the 34th minute.

Alba’s precise cross found Suárez at the back post, who deftly set up Messi for a headed finish.

The goal came just minutes after América took the lead, with Henry Martín slotting home Brian Rodriguez’s assist at the back post.

Messi’s strike marks his first under new manager Javier Mascherano.
