Barcelona president Joan Laporta has voiced his outrage over the referee’s decision not to award a penalty for a foul on defender Jules Koundé during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Getafe.
In the 81st minute, Koundé was brought down by Getafe’s Christantus Uche as he attempted to meet a cross at the far post. However, neither the referee nor the VAR intervened to call the foul, leaving Laporta furious.
“The refereeing in the game against Getafe was an absolute disgrace,” Laporta said, labeling the incident “a scandal.”
Laporta’s Strong Criticism

He called for a review of the decision, emphasizing that it was clear-cut and deserving of a penalty.
Laporta also drew comparisons to a similar incident from a Madrid-Getafe game in December, where a penalty was awarded to Madrid for a foul on Antonio Rüdiger, which Laporta believes highlights a double standard in refereeing as revealed by ESPN.

Barcelona’s Struggles in La Liga
Despite Barcelona’s impressive cup form, which saw them win the Spanish Supercopa with a 5-2 victory over Real Madrid, their league struggles continue.
The draw with Getafe marked their fourth consecutive winless match in La Liga, leaving them seven points behind leaders Real Madrid.
As the team struggles to find consistency in the league, they will look to bounce back in the Champions League, with a crucial match against Benfica on Tuesday. A win would secure their place in the round of 16.
Contract Extensions for Young Stars

Off the field, Barcelona is working to secure long-term contracts for some of their key young players.
Midfielders Pedri and Gavi are reportedly close to finalizing new deals, with Pedri’s extension expected to be announced by February.
The Spain international has had a standout season, overcoming previous injury setbacks.
Meanwhile, the club’s focus remains on strengthening its squad, with defender Eric García possibly leaving this month.
Girona is interested in re-signing the former loan player, although any deal will depend on Barcelona’s willingness to negotiate.
