Newcastle United have submitted an official bid exceeding €70 million to Eintracht Frankfurt for French striker Hugo Ekitike, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The proposal signals Newcastle’s intent to bolster their attacking options as they prepare for a Champions League campaign. However, the significant investment has sparked widespread speculation about the future of their star forward, Alexander Isak, with Liverpool emerging as a potential destination.

Ekitike, a 23-year-old versatile forward, has been a long-term target for Newcastle, who previously attempted to sign him in 2022 before he joined Paris Saint-Germain. His impressive 2024-25 season, where he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances for Frankfurt, has made him a prime target.

The Magpies’ urgency to secure Ekitike follows the departure of Callum Wilson, leaving a gap in their attacking lineup. Negotiations with Frankfurt are underway, though the Bundesliga club, known for tough negotiations, reportedly values Ekitike at €100 million, with his contract running until 2029.

The timing of Newcastle’s bid has raised eyebrows, particularly as it coincides with renewed interest in Isak from Liverpool. The Swedish striker, who joined Newcastle for a club-record £63 million in 2022, has been a standout performer, netting 35 goals in 67 appearances.

Recent reports suggest Liverpool have held talks with Isak’s representatives, with the Reds prepared to offer up to £120 million for the 25-year-old.

Several reports have fueled speculation, with some suggesting Ekitike’s potential arrival could pave the way for Isak’s departure, though Newcastle insist they want both strikers to form a formidable partnership under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle’s financial flexibility is under scrutiny, as signing Ekitike for a potential club-record fee while retaining Isak could strain their Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) compliance.
