Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has put an end to talks about a possible exit from Bayer Leverkusen, insisting he is not going anywhere despite strong interest from Galatasaray, other European and Middle Eastern clubs.
In a recent interview with German sports outlet Bild, Boniface said he is fully committed to the Bundesliga side and plans to stay and fight for trophies under new coach Erik ten Hag.
“My future is here. I am staying at Leverkusen, one hundred percent,” Boniface declared. “I still have three years left on my contract. I want to win titles and have a strong season with this team.”
Boniface’s statement comes after months of speculation linking him with big clubs like AC Milan, Galatasaray, and Al Nassr.
Reports claimed that the Saudi Arabian side made a strong move to sign him during the winter window but ended up picking Aston Villa striker Jhon Durán instead.
The 24-year-old forward, however, showed no signs of regret over the failed deal. “It is what it is. The transfer didn’t happen and I am still here,” he said calmly.
Even with AC Milan rumored to be restructuring their squad and reportedly keeping tabs on him, Boniface shrugged off the talk. He said he is focused on helping Leverkusen succeed and recalled a moment last season when things weren’t going his way.
“During a tough period last season, I told Simon Rolfes I love it here. Nothing has changed. I want to work hard and make this season a great one.”
Boniface’s commitment is timely for Bayer Leverkusen, who have lost several important players including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Jonathan Tah during the summer window.
The club is now undergoing major changes as they move on from the Xabi Alonso era, which brought a league title and domestic cup success.
Under Ten Hag’s leadership, the team is rebuilding and Boniface will likely play a central role in the club’s plans going forward.
