Esther Okoronkwo has sent a strong message to Banyana Banyana ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash, making it clear the Super Falcons are ready for a battle against the defending champions South Africa.
With four assists to her name, Okoronkwo has been one of the brightest stars of the tournament so far.
She also has a goal to her credit, but it is her creative playmaking that has helped push Nigeria into the final four. Now, as the Falcons prepare for their toughest test yet, the confident striker says the team is focused on victory.
Speaking ahead of the semifinal, Okoronkwo shared her mindset and that of the team as they prepare to face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, a side that defeated Nigeria in a tense shootout during the 2022 edition of the competition.
“When I step on the pitch, I just want to give everything to help us win, either by scoring or setting up others,” she said. “This is our moment. We want the trophy and that is what is driving us.”
The attacker noted that the Falcons are not distracted by the reputation or past records of their opponents. According to her, the squad is focused entirely on their game plan and how to deliver a result.
“We’re not watching what others have done. We are only thinking about what we are going to do. The whole team is ready. We are prepared to win,” she said firmly.
