AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori has reignited his international ambition with England as he sets his sights on a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 27-year-old, who opted to represent England over Nigeria despite his heritage, addressed his World Cup aspirations during a press conference in Singapore on Monday, where Milan is currently on a pre-season tour.

Tomori, who is entering his fifth season at the San Siro, admitted that the 2024–25 campaign fell below expectations but insisted that both his club and personal goals are firmly fixed on improvement this season.
“At a club like Milan, last season wasn’t what we wanted it to be,” Tomori said. “So, this season has to be better. We’re already looking forward to starting strong.”
He revealed that a crucial test lies ahead as Milan prepares to face Arsenal on Wednesday. Tomori highlighted the importance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, calling it a non-negotiable for a club like Milan.
“We go into every game looking to win. If we win every single game, we lift a trophy at the end of the season,” he added. “We just have to focus on our preparation and aim high.”
While club success is important, Tomori made it clear that his eyes are firmly on the global stage. The former Chelsea defender, who last featured for the Three Lions in October 2023, disclosed that he has spoken directly with England boss Thomas Tuchel regarding his national team future.
“Every season is important,” Tomori said. “But when it’s the World Cup season, things feel different. Every player wants to represent their country at the World Cup. I know what I need to do, perform consistently at the highest level with Milan.”

Tomori’s switch of allegiance from Nigeria to England several years ago sparked widespread debate among fans. However, his recent exclusion from England squads has raised questions about his long-term international prospects.
Now, with the 2026 World Cup in North America fast approaching, Tomori appears determined to prove his worth and force his way back into the England setup. Whether that gamble pays off remains to be seen.
