Manchester United supporters were left stunned after discovering they could not print the names of Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, or Eric Cantona on the club’s newly released 2025/26 jerseys.

The restriction was revealed via a notice displayed inside the club’s official mega store, stating:

“Due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to print Cantona, Beckham, and Ronaldo.”

The sudden enforcement confused many, especially as fans rushed to get their hands on the latest kits released earlier this month.

Club Clarifies Licensing Restriction

United has now explained that the trio of football legends, Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, and Eric Cantona, own their respective image and naming rights.

This means the club cannot legally reproduce their names on merchandise without specific licensing agreements, which are currently not in place for retail shirt printing.

A spokesperson for the club told “The Sun” that this policy stems from long-standing intellectual property arrangements that are not widely understood by fans.

The Icons in Question

All three players remain revered figures in United’s storied history.

Eric Cantona became a cult hero in the 1990s.

David Beckham rose to global fame with his pinpoint passing and free-kicks.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, had two spells at the club, the latter ending controversially in 2022.

Their iconic status makes them top choices for fans wanting personalized shirts, making the restriction all the more frustrating for loyal supporters.

 What’s Next for United?

Manchester United, under new head coach Ruben Amorim, are currently on a pre-season tour in the United States. They face Bournemouth in Chicago this Thursday as preparations continue for the upcoming Premier League season.
