Mason Greenwood could soon leave Marseille as clubs from Saudi Arabia show strong interest in the English forward.
This comes after Marseille agreed to a record signing of Brazilian winger Igor Paixao for around 35 million euros. The deal has made fans and experts wonder if the French club is now open to selling Greenwood.
Paixao’s arrival may change how Marseille sets up their attack, and Greenwood might no longer be the main star.
This shift has led to growing talk that Marseille could cash in on him, especially with Saudi clubs reportedly ready to offer as much as 50 million euros. If the deal goes through, it would break Marseille’s record for the most money received from a player sale.
A Season to Remember
Greenwood made a strong mark during the 2024–25 season. He scored 21 goals and ended as the joint top scorer in Ligue 1, sharing the spot with Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele. His sharp finishing and smart movement helped Marseille compete at a high level in both the league and Europe.
His form quickly gained attention from top clubs. While several teams in Europe have looked at Greenwood, it is the Saudi Pro League that is pushing hardest now. The league has already signed big names in the past two years, and Greenwood fits their strategy of bringing in global stars in their prime.
Despite the transfer talk, Marseille’s owner Frank McCourt has said he wants Greenwood to stay. In June, he spoke about building the team around the 23-year-old forward and making him the centerpiece of Marseille’s project.
Still, every club has its price. If the Saudi offer reaches 50 million euros, Marseille may find it hard to say no. Such a fee would help them invest in other areas of the squad or balance their finances after the big money spent on Paixao.
