Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles, also known as Super Eagles B, are set to kick off their African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 campaign against reigning champions Senegal on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The match will take place at 6:00 PM Nigerian time and will be broadcast live on SuperSport (DStv), beIN Sports, and SABC Sport.

The fixture marks the opening Group D match for Nigeria, who were drawn alongside Senegal, Congo, and Sudan in what promises to be one of the most competitive groups in the tournament jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Nigeria’s Preparations and Squad Outlook

The Super Eagles B, coached by Eric Chelle, feature only players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). They booked their ticket to CHAN 2025 after defeating Ghana in a tightly contested two-legged Jollof derby.

Ahead of the tournament, the team held a second-phase training camp in Zanzibar, where they played two friendlies against the host nation, drawing 0-0 and 2-2 respectively.

Despite mixed results in the build-up, Nigeria remains hopeful of a strong showing, having previously finished third in 2014 and second in 2018. However, they did not qualify for the last two CHAN editions and were eliminated in the group stage in 2016.

Senegal Aim to Defend Title Despite Shaky Warm-Up

Senegal enters the tournament as defending champions and the favorites to top the group. However, their form in recent friendlies raises questions, having lost 2-1 to both Uganda and Tanzania.

With a strong pedigree in youth and domestic football development, Senegal still poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s ambitions.
