Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has taken a bold step in a bid to force a move to Inter Milan, refusing to attend Atalanta training after submitting a formal transfer request.
The 26-year-old winger, who played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last 2 seasons, is reportedly furious at what he describes as a “failed promise” by the club’s management.
Despite having a more lucrative offer from Napoli, Lookman has already agreed personal terms with Inter, accepting a €4.5 million annual salary.
However, negotiations between both clubs have hit a wall. Atalanta have rejected two bids from Inter, first a €40 million offer, and then a €45 million proposal that included €3 million in add-ons, insisting on their €50 million valuation.
Atalanta CEO: “We Control His Destiny”
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi confirmed that there was an internal agreement to allow Lookman to leave for a top club this summer, but clarified that the agreement excluded domestic rivals like Inter. “We control his destiny, not Inter Milan,” Percassi said, reinforcing the club’s unwillingness to be pressured into a sale.
Lookman’s absence from training is seen as a dramatic escalation, and sources close to the player say he feels betrayed by Atalanta’s stance. Despite fan backlash labelling him “ungrateful” and “disrespectful,” Lookman appears determined to force through the move.
What’s Next?
With Atalanta unmoved by the forward’s protest, it remains to be seen whether Inter will return with an improved offer or shift their focus elsewhere.
