Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko has made headlines after reportedly sacrificing a portion of his salary and his agency’s commission to secure a move to Manchester United, snubbing a more lucrative offer from Newcastle United.
United have agreed a €85 million (£73.7m/$100m) transfer fee with RB Leipzig for the 21-year-old forward. Despite Newcastle’s higher wage proposal, Sesko’s desire to play at Old Trafford ultimately drove his decision.
Sacrifices Made to Seal Dream Transfer
According to Sky Germany, Sesko’s agency, led by Elvis Basanovic, agreed to forgo part of their commission, while the player himself accepted a lower wage to make the deal happen. This gesture proved pivotal in concluding negotiations with the Premier League giants.
Sesko has already arrived in Manchester to complete his medicals and is expected to sign a contract running until 2030. He will link up with manager Ruben Amorim, who is set to lead United into a new era.
Friendly and Sell-On Clause Included
As part of the agreement, Manchester United and RB Leipzig will face off in a friendly match in Germany, expected to generate €1.5–2 million for the Bundesliga side. The deal also includes a sell-on clause, securing future financial benefits for Leipzig.
With his medical imminent, Sesko is expected to join United’s pre-season squad and be a central figure in their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign.
