Atalanta are preparing for life without Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, despite rejecting Inter Milan’s initial bids. The Europa League champions have started identifying possible replacements, with two Premier League strikers on their radar.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian club is considering Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta as primary targets.

Mateta, valued at around €30 million, has been on Atalanta’s watchlist since the departure of top scorer Mateo Retegui to the Saudi Pro League. Muniz’s pursuit is more recent, sparked by the growing likelihood of losing Lookman.

Transfer Tensions Rise

Lookman has reportedly agreed personal terms with Inter Milan but remains in Bergamo due to Atalanta’s €50 million asking price. Inter’s current offer stands at €45 million, with negotiations ongoing.

The Super Eagles forward has gone public with his frustration, accusing the club of breaking a promise to sell him for a set fee. In protest, he has handed in a transfer request and missed five consecutive days of pre-season training, effectively going on strike.

Replacement Hunt Intensifies

While Atalanta maintains a strong stance on Lookman’s valuation, they are simultaneously working to ensure they are not left without a proven attacker. Signing either Mateta or Muniz would provide depth and help fill the gap should Lookman’s exit materialise.

With the transfer window heating up, the situation could take a decisive turn in the coming days, especially if Inter return with an improved offer closer to Atalanta’s demands.
