Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah says his team will face Nigeria without fear when both sides meet at the 2024 African Nations Championship in Zanzibar.
The Ghanaian tactician believes his players are ready for the challenge and will give their all against one of Africa’s most famous football nations.
Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles lost their first game 1-0 to defending champions Senegal and now face a must-win situation. Sudan also need victory after a 1-1 draw with Congo in their opening match.
Both teams are still in the race for the knockout stage but have no room for mistakes.
Appiah Confident in His Team

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Appiah said he respects Nigeria’s history in African football but will not allow his side to be intimidated.
He stated that he does not believe in football rivalries and that the better team on the daywill win.
“Nigeria is one of the biggest nations in African football and we respect them, but we won’t fear them,” Appiah declared at the pre-match press conference.
“I don’t believe in any rivalry; this is a game and the best team will win. I have watched only one game of the Nigerian team and can’t assess them based on one game. I don’t see any player as a threat, but the entire team.”
Appiah has a history of upsetting bigger sides.
Last year, he guided Sudan’s senior national team to a famous win over Ghana, ending the Black Stars’ hopes of reaching the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He hopes to create another upset in Zanzibar.
Nigeria Under Pressure

Nigeria coach Eric Chelle has called on his squad to respond strongly after their opening loss.
A win against Sudan is vital before they face Congo in their last group game. Failure to collect three points could see them exit the tournament early.
The Super Eagles B finished second in the 2018 edition of CHAN but missed the 2020 and 2022 tournaments. This year’s campaign started poorly, and the match against Sudan could define their fate.
Chelle believes his players have the ability to recover but warns they must improve their finishing and keep focus for the full ninety minutes.
Clash Set for Zanzibar Showdown
The match will be played at the Amaan Stadium, which holds 15,000 fans. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 pm Nigerian time on Tuesday evening.
With both teams hungry for victory, the game promises intensity and drama. For Nigeria, it is a fight for survival. For Sudan, it is a chance to prove they can stand toe-to-toe with Africa’s best.
