Brighton and Hove Albion Women have officially welcomed Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to their squad with a warm and loud reception.

The 24 year old joined the Women’s Super League team this summer after leaving Paris FC. She arrived later than other new players because she was busy leading Nigeria’s Super Falcons to victory in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Nnadozie’s performances at the tournament were outstanding. She helped Nigeria win a record tenth African title by keeping four clean sheets and allowing only two goals in open play.

Her efforts earned her the Best Goalkeeper award and a spot in the Team of the Tournament.

From African Champion to English League Pioneer

The Nigerian shot stopper has also been shortlisted for the Yachine Trophy, given to the best women’s goalkeeper in the world.

She will compete against top keepers such as Ann Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Hannah Hampton and Daphne van Domselaar.

Her move to Brighton is historic as she becomes the first Nigerian goalkeeper to play in the English Women’s Super League.

When she entered Brighton’s dressing room for the first time, players and staff stood and clapped to show their respect.

Head coach Dario Vidosic praised her African title win and her global award nomination.

Vidosic told her that the club hoped she would also help them win trophies. He welcomed her alongside two other summer signings and wished her success in her new chapter.

Nnadozie’s list of achievements goes far beyond her recent WAFCON success.

She has won league titles in Nigeria and France, along with several African and international awards for her performances.

Recently she received national recognition from the Nigerian government. She was honoured with the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger. She also received a cash prize of one hundred thousand dollars and a three bedroom apartment in Abuja’s Renewed Hope Estate.

With her arrival, Brighton gain a goalkeeper known for her sharp reflexes, commanding presence and leadership. Fans are eager to see her in action in the English league, where she will face some of the best strikers in the world.
