Ademola Lookman’s future remains uncertain after Inter Milan failed to convince Atalanta to part ways with the Nigerian forward.
Inter made several attempts to sign the 2024 CAF Player of the Year, but Atalanta rejected all offers, insisting they would not sell to another Serie A rival.
The San Siro giants were confident of landing Lookman this summer. Personal terms were already agreed, and the player himself pushed for the move.
He even turned down interest from other clubs to make Inter his next step. But Atalanta stayed firm, demanding over €50 million while Inter’s highest bid stalled at €45 million plus add-ons.
Lookman, who played a key role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph in 2024, believes his time in Bergamo is coming to an end. Yet his desire to leave has not been enough to break Atalanta’s resistance.
The Only Way Inter Can Make It Happen
Inter are not completely out of the race. Reports suggest the club could make another late attempt before the transfer window closes.
However, there is a catch. The Nerazzurri must first sell one of their attackers before they can raise enough money to meet Atalanta’s demands.
Midfielder Davide Frattesi has attracted offers from other clubs, and if he leaves, Inter would finally have the funds to make a serious final push for Lookman. Without a sale, Inter cannot go beyond their €45 million ceiling.
For now, the club is also exploring cheaper alternatives.
With only weeks left before the window shuts, Lookman’s dream of wearing the black and blue shirt of Inter depends on whether Inter can cash in on one of their players.
Lookman’s Tough Spot at Atalanta
Meanwhile, Lookman has returned to training with Atalanta after briefly staying away in an effort to force the move. Though he remains professional on the pitch, his heart appears set on a new challenge.
Atalanta’s stance is clear. They would rather sell him abroad than strengthen a direct rival in Italy. This leaves Lookman with two options: wait for Inter to offload a player and come back with an improved bid, or consider offers from outside Italy.
