Former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has called on Nicolas Jackson to remain at the club despite recent transfer talks. The Nigerian ex-midfielder believes the young striker can still prove himself if he fights for his place.
Jackson, 24, joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023 and has scored 30 goals with 12 assists in 81 matches. However, his finishing has often been questioned, leaving fans split on whether he should stay or go.
Mikel, who won multiple trophies during his Chelsea career, admitted that Jackson has room for improvement but insisted competition in the squad will make him better.
New Signings Add Pressure to Jackson

Chelsea recently signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro to boost their attacking strength. This move has placed Jackson lower in the pecking order under coach Enzo Maresca.
Other young players like Estevao Willian, Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato have also joined, showing the club’s intent to build a strong future.
Despite the challenge, Mikel believes Jackson should not see this as a sign to leave. He stressed that strong competition is key to winning trophies and pushing players to improve.
Mikel Confident Jackson Can Shine Again
Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, the former Olympic bronze medallist praised Chelsea’s transfer activity, noting that over $200m had been earned from player sales. However, he urged Jackson to remain part of the squad.
“I hope he stays. I still think he has a big role to play this season. He is a fantastic player who brings quality to the club. Competition makes players better and helps teams win,” Mikel said.
Jackson’s last appearance came in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Flamengo.
While reports suggest Chelsea may be open to selling him, Mikel believes the forward has the talent to become a key figure again if he remains focused and determined.
