Carney Chukwuemeka has officially left Chelsea to join Borussia Dortmund on a permanent deal.
The German club announced the transfer, confirming that the 21 year old midfielder has signed a contract that runs until June 2030.
This ends his three year spell at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking on the transfer, Borussia Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken said:
“It was important to us to further increase the quality and creativity in our attacking midfield. We are delighted that we have been able to secure such a great talent as Carney for the long term and can now work together on his development.”
Journey from England to Germany

Chukwuemeka first joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022. During his time with the Blues, he played 32 matches, scored two goals, and made one assist.
Earlier this year, he spent six months on loan at Dortmund, appearing in 17 matches and scoring once.
He also featured in four games at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup, gaining valuable experience with the German side.
Speaking after completing the move, Chukwuemeka shared his excitement about staying at Dortmund.
He said he had built strong connections with the team, coaches, and fans during his loan spell and now considers the club his new football home.
He promised to give his best to help the team achieve its goals.
His words: “It feels really good to now be an integral part of BVB. I’ve gotten to know this club, the coach, my teammates, and the fans over the past few months, and I’m just happy that Borussia Dortmund is now my new footballing home. I will give everything I can to ensure that we achieve our goals as a team.”
Another Chelsea Exit with Nigerian Roots
Chukwuemeka will keep wearing the number 17 shirt, the same one he wore during his loan period.
His departure makes him the second Chelsea midfielder with Nigerian heritage to leave the club this summer.
Lesley Ugochukwu had earlier completed a move to Premier League newcomers Burnley.
Borussia Dortmund is known for developing young talents and giving them a platform to shine.
Chukwuemeka’s arrival adds more depth to their midfield as they aim for both domestic and European success.
