Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has expressed enthusiasm about working under Nigeria’s interim Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen.
Eguavoen came back and made things look fantastic for us; mainly, our form in the last couple of matches has been fantastic, Lookman said of his experience with Eguavoen, describing the former 1994 AFCON winner.
Bruno Labbadia’s withdrawal leaves Eguavoen, who has taken charge four times before, with three wins and a draw in AFCON qualifiers so far, including a FIFA ruling win over Libya.
Lookman’s Road to the Super Eagles
Lookman originally represented Nigeria after switching allegiance from England’s U20 World Cup-winning team in 2017.
After watching him play in a Europa Conference League match for Leicester City, Eguavoen gave him his debut call up for Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Eguavoen has had a positive influence on Lookman’s international career, the midfielder said, speaking to 54footballx.
“It has been great. I have known him obviously as the coach before because he gave me my first call-up to play for Nigeria, so I know him very well.”

Eyes Set on AFCON and World Cup Qualification
Nigeria’s progress under Eguavoen remains optimistic for Lookman, who says the team’s consistency will be the key to success in upcoming qualifiers.
Lookman said the goal is to qualify for AFCON and the World Cup, and barring injury, he’ll make his 28th senior appearance in the Rep of Benin on November 14 as Nigeria gears up for AFCON qualifying.
