Former Watford striker Troy Deeney recently criticized Marcus Rashford’s influence at Manchester United, claiming that his attitude could be negatively affecting the club’s young players.

Marcus Rashford, once celebrated for his performances on the pitch and his off-field activism, is now under scrutiny as his form has dwindled.

Over the past two Premier League seasons, the 27-year-old forward has scored just eight goals in 44 appearances, with only one goal this term as United languish in 13th place under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Deeney, a pundit on talkSPORT, voiced concerns about Rashford’s attitude, which he believes could impact United’s younger players.

He pointed to Alejandro Garnacho’s subdued reaction after scoring against Leicester, attributing it partly to Rashford’s visible frustration on the field.

“When Marcus is throwing his arms about and acting like the world owes him a favour, young players look up to that,” Deeney remarked. He suggested that Rashford’s behavior might set a negative example, potentially affecting the team’s morale.

Marcus Rashford’s Challenge Under Amorim’s New System

Rashford has endured a challenging period at United, with six managerial changes since he debuted. Now, he faces another opportunity to prove himself under Amorim, whose arrival brings a shift in tactics.

The Portuguese manager is expected to implement his preferred 3-4-3 formation, which requires wide forwards to adopt dual roles as both No.10s and wingers.

This formation could suit Rashford’s adaptability more than out-and-out wingers like Garnacho or Amad Diallo, potentially giving him a chance to rediscover his form and consistency.

However, for Rashford to truly make an impact, he’ll need to find a balance between on-field performance and setting a positive example for younger players in the squad.

Rashford’s future at United might hinge on his ability to embrace Amorim’s tactical demands and become a leader who inspires rather than frustrates his teammates.

With the team in desperate need of stability and revitalized leadership, Amorim’s tenure could mark a turning point for both Rashford’s career and United’s trajectory if the forward can step up and set a new tone on and off the field.
