Lille OSC president Olivier Létang has disclosed that the French club earned significantly less than initially believed from the 2020 transfer of Victor Osimhen to Napoli.

Despite the deal reportedly being worth over €70 million, Létang told L’Equipe TV that Lille netted only €7 million after accounting for player valuations, commissions, and intermediary fees.

“The net amount, considering the player’s purchase, four players valued at €20m, but who were worth nothing, intermediaries, and commissions, was €7m, more or less,” Létang revealed via Gazzetta dello Sport.

The transfer included four Napoli players as part of the valuation, none of whom ever featured for Lille.

The deal has been scrutinized extensively by authorities in both Italy and France. Napoli, however, emerged unscathed from legal proceedings.

“Napoli have already been judged on this matter with two different levels of the justice system that cleared the club and directors, finding no irregularities,” explained Napoli lawyer Mattia Grassani last year.

He emphasized that Napoli’s handling of the transfer contrasted with cases such as Juventus, who were penalized for financial irregularities.

Victor Osimhen has flourished since his transfer, scoring 76 goals in 133 matches for Napoli and playing a pivotal role in the club’s 2023 Serie A title victory, their first in 33 years.

Currently on loan at Galatasaray, the Nigerian striker has maintained his prolific form with 10 goals in 14 appearances.

Osimhen remains under contract with Napoli until 2026, but exit clauses in his agreement could see him leave permanently as early as January 2024.
