Achraf Hakimi’s mother, Saida Mouh, has revealed that her son was confident he would win the CAF Best Player award, which ultimately went to Ademola Lookman.
Before the award ceremony, held in the Paris Saint-Germain star’s home country of Morocco on Monday, December 16, reports from media outlets suggested a leaked result had declared Hakimi the winner of the prestigious honour.

However, Lookman was eventually crowned the winner after an outstanding 2024 season in which he helped his team secure the Europa League trophy, scoring a historic hat-trick in the final.

Hakimi’s mom on son losing award to Lookman

Mouh expressed her disappointment over Hakimi’s failure to win the coveted award, revealing that she had attended the ceremony because her son had assured her he was the winner.
“My son asked me to come urgently to Marrakech to be present at the CAF Awards ceremony,” she told Al-Araby via Fennec Football
“He spoke with such certainty that he was the winner. Maybe he had been informed before the event, but in the end, the trophy went to Ademola Lookman.”
Hakimi enjoyed an impressive 2023-24 campaign, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 40 games across all competitions, as PSG clinched both the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles.
The 26-year-old has continued his strong form this season, tallying three goals and seven assists in 20 appearances for the French giants.
